Learn chess with Silver Knights Chess Academy, formerly called Magnus Chess Academy! We’ve taught 100,000 children to play including state & national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn a new skill and have FUN. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games. Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies. Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments (in-person and online) outside of club time. This class is for crafty kids who love cutting, gluing, and decorating! Students will take pictures (or use ones from home), create interesting page designs using different scrapbooking techniques, and explore their creative side across our program. At the end, they'll bring home a really cool scrapbook that they can keep adding to throughout the year!

Looking for a hands-on STEM course your Little Coder will love? In this course, students will have a blast while learning about robots and how they work. Through visual programming, students will learn computational thinking and basic programming concepts such as: pseudo-coding, code structure, variables, and loops. Students will participate in fun and engaging activities to practice problem-solving and creative thinking. They will complete interactive projects and code their robots to perform tasks like turning the robot’s lights on and off, playing music, moving, and detecting sound.

The Wa-Sho program (www.wa-shokuiku.org) is an initiative from TABLE FOR TWO USA, a non-profit organization promoting healthy eating around the world. Wa-Sho combines the Japanese words “Washoku” which refers to Japanese food and, “Shokuiku”, food education. It is a series of hands-on classes on Japanese food and food culture for American students. Students will learn about food broadly from how to make iconic Japanese foods such as onigiri (rice ball), sushi rolls, miso soup, the importance of appreciation for those who both prepare and grow our food and food related concerns such as food waste and what actions they can take in their daily life. They’ll practice fingerspelling, learn everyday signs, and even try signing along to stories and songs. In Little Ecologists, Ms. Karass will introduce Pre-K and Kindergarten children to one animal from the Washington, DC area in each class. We will read a picture book about that animal, look closely at its features, and explore the habitat and basic needs that help it live. Children will learn through guided observation, drawing, art, conversation, and hands-on habitat building.

Floor Hockey is a modified version of ice hockey played indoors with lightweight sticks and a soft puck or ball. It promotes teamwork, strategy, and cardiovascular fitness in a safe, non-contact setting. Students practice passing, shooting, and defensive play while developing respect and cooperation.
