CLS is a local and independent business that has been around for 17 years. We believe that our extensive experience in creating after-school programs has brought us where we are. All the programs are safe and offer structured after-school time to your children.
We are honored to provide aftercare for the schools we serve, and we can't wait to start another school year!
CLS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM
Our after-school program is held at Hearst Elementary School from 3:00 PM to 6 PM, Monday- Friday.
Our after-school structure includes snack time, outdoor time, a fun activity together such as arts and crafts for Pre-K through 1st grade, or STEM, homework assistance, and indoor activities for the upper grades.
CLS does not offer drop ins or an option to sign up for less than 5 days a week. If you register with us and your child will only attend on certain days, you will be have to notify us at absencehearst@capitollanguageservices.com
Children are dismissed by their morning teacher to our CLS team, inside the building.
Instructions and further details will be sent to families prior to the first day of school.
HOW WILL MY CHILD'S SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?
Typical afternoon Pre-K through 1
3:00 PM - 3:30 PM Attendance and snack time
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM Outdoor Recess or Spanish
4:30 PM – 5:30 PM Manual activity and/or indoor games
5:45 PM – 6:00 PM Dismissal
Typical afternoon grades 2-5
3:00 PM - 3:30 PM Attendance and snack time
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM Outdoor Recess
4:30 PM – 5:30 PM Homework assistance, indoor games including STEM activities twice a week, or Spanish

Your child can be picked up anytime, either from the playground or through the main entrance.
The first days, coordinators will check IDs.

SCHEDULE
Classes are twice a week and will start Wednesday, September 4.
Each session is 1 hour long. Classes are taught by a CLS Teacher inside the school. Before registering, please check the schedule below.
Spanish Class for Pre-K and K – Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Spanish Class for Grade 1st and up – Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
PRICE
The cost is $180/month. Please note that the price includes only the Spanish class if the student is also enrolled in CLS. This price includes the material contribution.
DETAILS ABOUT THE CLASSES
Each class includes one or a set of objectives that target the acquisition of a specific structure and focus on the active “reproduction” of the language.
The children will gradually combine vocabulary and structures and learn how to use some of them. From the beginning, the students will learn how to form simple sentences (questions and answers) through small role-plays. Active role-plays will encourage the children to listen, ask and answer simple questions. All the classes are connected to each other and act as “building blocks”. We review old elements and recombine them with new ones, gradually forming new and more complex sentence incorporating broader vocabulary.
Our native-speakers instructors focus on active listening and repetition (with emphasis on correct pronunciation) and speaking. The Language Program uses an age-appropriate Spanish method as one of the tools for learning the language.

ENROLLMENT AND REGISTRATION DATES
Families are required to pay a deposit to hold their spot. The deposit equals to one month tuition fees and is not refundable.
RETURNING CLS STUDENTS AND CURRENT SCHOOL FAMILIES
Remaining days until the deadline:
- If current families pay the deposit between April 25 and June 20: Their child will start Monday, August 26 (K-5th grade) or Thursday, August 29 (for Pre-K)
- June 20 to September 1: Enrollment will be closed
- If current families pay the deposit after September 1: Their child will start 10 business days after CLS' Office receives your registration. The starting date will be confirmed via e-mail.Please note that if you are a current family and pay the deposit through the portal in July, your child will not be able to start before September 2024.
NEWLY ENROLLED FAMILIES AT HEARST
CLS reserves spots for newly enrolled families accepted by the administration of the school.
Remaining days until the deadline:
- If newly enrolled families pay the deposit between April 25 and August 11: Their child will start Monday, August 26 (K-5th grade) or Thursday, August 29 (for Pre-K)
- If newly enrolled pay the deposit between August 11 and August 23: Their child will start Tuesday, September 3
- August 24 to September 1: Enrollment will be closed
- If newly enrolled families pay the deposit after September 1: Their child will start 10 business days after CLS' Office receives your registration. The starting date will be confirmed via e-mail.

CLS fees are calculated for the school year by counting ONLY the days school is open. Tuition is the same every month regardless of the number of program days in each month. Tuition is calculated for the school year program and billed in ten equal monthly installments, starting August 1st, 2024, through April 1, 2025. CLS does not bill on a per diem basis or prorate the month if your child is absent. CLS offers financial aid to families that aren't able to pay the full price. WITHDRAWAL FROM THE PROGRAM
We require a 30-day notice to withdraw from the program. Thus, parents are not responsible for any other payment if the withdrawal form is submitted within this time frame. Withdrawals can be made using this link.
WHAT's NEW TO CLS FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2024-2025?
We heard you!
CLS will have a new registration portal, starting in July 2024. Some of the benefits of this new portal will be:
- Enroll and un-enroll (with 30-day notice)
- Get immediate access to receipts and statements (including our EIN number)
- Enroll in camps
- Get notifications
- Send messages through the app (which you will be able to download on your phone). Messages can be seen by our coordinators in real time.
It is going to be a great improvement that CLS is making so families can enjoy a user-friendly process!
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU HAVE PAID THE DEPOSIT?
Families that have paid the deposit through the website will be notified to create an account on the portal and to complete a simple registration form by July 31st, as well as setting up a recurring payment. The recurring payments will start August 1st, 2024, for the month of September, which will include the last week in August. The recurring payments will end in April 1, 2025, covering May (2025) tuition fees. Your deposit will apply to June 2025. WHY CLS MUST SET DEADLINES FOR PAYING THE DEPOSIT?
Planning always wins!
Knowing early on our enrollment will give us the time to hire and train our staff, plan activities, extracurricular activities, purchase material, and to put the request in for the correct number of classrooms that we will need to run our programs. This last process will need to be completed a month in advance with DGS/DCPS.
